Winners unveiled for Australian Law Awards 2025

Momentum Media’s legal brand, Lawyers Weekly has announced more than 30 winners in this year’s Australian Law Awards.

The Australian Law Awards returned in 2025, once again delivering an unparalleled awards program identifying professionals and firms across the nation.

The 25th annual Australian Law Awards gala ceremony was held on Thursday, 14 August at The Star, Sydney, to recognise the top-performing legal professionals and law firms across Australia.

A total of 36 winners were chosen from the 334 finalists at this year’s awards, run with support from Principal Partner Dye & Durham.

There were more than 30 categories on offer this year, including 22 individual and 13 group categories, while the highest-scoring winner received the Excellence Award.

This year, the coveted award was given to Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, after the company took home the Dealmaker of the Year and Commercial Team of the Year awards earlier in the evening.

The national program identifies the leading partners, barristers, general counsel, and in-house lawyers, as well as mentors, sole practitioners, and rising stars.

Winners in the individual categories included representatives from UNSW Law & Justice, Chamberlains Law Firm, Martin Place Chambers, and HMC Capital.

Law firms, legal teams, and insurance teams were also celebrated, alongside firms with premier pro bono programs and wellness initiatives.

Companies walking home with trophies include Gilbert + Tobin, Conditsis Lawyers, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, and Hamilton Locke.

For a quarter of a century, the prestigious awards program has championed dedicated legal professionals who have achieved optimal results for clients while establishing their reputation for excellence.

Members of the legal industry gathered at this year’s gala ceremony to celebrate the success of their colleagues and to network with industry leaders and peers.

Australian comedian and actor Dave Thornton performed emcee duties, providing light and laughter throughout the evening.

The judging criteria for award categories were both quantitative and qualitative, acknowledging growth, business development, diversity, leadership, innovation, business excellence, and contribution to Australia’s legal sector.

Speaking about the awards, Lawyers Weekly managing editor Jerome Doraisamy said: “It is our honour to host this annual awards program – the biggest and best celebration of legal talent nationwide.

“It is remarkable to think that the Australian Law Awards is now in its 25th year – so much has happened in that quarter century, and those who took the stage are at the forefront of the professional, technological, environmental, and sociocultural change that continues.

“Congratulations to all of the finalists and winners – we were delighted to celebrate your achievements with you.”
