Momentum Media dons sneakers in aid of mental health

In a bid to raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health, Momentum Media will be pulling on their runners to take part in the 2016 City2Surf in order to raise money for Beyondblue.

Beyondblue works to raise awareness of depression, anxiety and suicide prevention, to reduce the stigma surrounding these issues and to encourage people to seek support when they need it.

Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia, with an average of one in four people – one in three women and one in five men – experiencing anxiety, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ (ABS) National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing: Summary of Results, 2007.

Almost eight Australians take their own lives every day, according to the ABS.

Group publisher and running veteran Alex Whitlock said he was pleased to support an organisation that aims to raise awareness for mental health concerns.

“Maintaining positive mental health is so important and something that we often don’t think about in our day-to-day lives. But for many Australians who are affected by conditions like depression and anxiety, it’s an everyday battle.

“Lacing up our runners and giving the City2Surf a crack is how Momentum Media has chosen to acknowledge these issues, and it’s our way to support the great work that Beyondblue does in highlighting these and providing help to those who encounter these problems on a daily basis,” he said.
