Better Business Awards honour brokers supporting cancer research

The Better Business Awards, run nationally by Momentum Media in partnership with NAB, celebrates the brightest and best in the Australian mortgage broking industry.

The Finance Brokers Ride to Conquer Cancer team raised $91,997.41 for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and increased awareness of ways to fight cancer.

The event is the only one of its kind, and showcases the exceptional work of brokers in local markets, with separate events held in Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

The Awards also provide insight to the work brokers do in their communities, and the impact they have on their locale.

At the WA event held in Perth this year, a team of brokers from across different broker groups and aggregators were honoured with the Best Community Engagement Program Award for their efforts in raising money for a cancer charity and generating awareness of critical cancer research.

A team of 30 riders from the mortgage and finance broking industry came together for months of training, early starts and extremely challenging weather conditions to ride 200 kilometres over two days for the 2018 MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer.

The Finance Brokers Ride to Conquer Cancer team raised $91,997.41 for the ride, which increases awareness of ways to fight the disease and generates funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

Team members included Launch Finance’s broker and director Steve Milligan (who went on to win awards for the state’s Best Residential Broker and Broker of the Year), Do Financial brokers and directors Michael and Leila Deegan, Insight Finance lending specialist Scott Ayles, and several members from aggregation company PLAN, including CEO Anja Pannek.

Most of the team members have committed to riding again in 2019, and they hope to increase numbers and funds raised.
