Momentum Media and its law brand Lawyers Weekly, along with principal partner Leo Cussen Centre for Law are pleased to reveal that submissions for the 2022 Women in Law Awards are now open.

Held in November at the Grand Hyatt, Melbourne, the black-tie gala event will showcase the depth of talent of female professionals across the nation’s legal industry while affirming the sector’s essential role in supporting the expansion of Australia.

The 11th annual Women in Law Awards – which will be held on Thursday, 24 November 2022 at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne – is the pinnacle black-tie gala event that is designed to showcase the depth of talent of female professionals across Australia’s legal industry while affirming the sector’s essential role in supporting the expansion of Australia.

Nominations and submissions are now open across over 30 individual and group categories, and will close on 9 September 2022, with finalists announced and tickets going on sale on 4 October 2022.

The prestigious national awards program presents an opportunity for leading women to showcase their achievements, attract more clients, and propel their careers, while recognising them for their tireless efforts to ensure the legal industry thrives and succeeds.

From executives to barristers, academics, pro bono, students, and the rising stars of tomorrow, the awards will celebrate the best and brightest in the legal profession and the business of law regardless of law firm or organisation size or structure.

For organisations, winning an award in the group category will distinguish them from their peers when attracting and retaining stellar talent while strengthening their position when winning and retaining business, while individual recognition will underpin career advancement.

The awards are peer-reviewed by a panel of well-respected judges who will single out those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, capability, and passion to drive the industry forward.

The awards ceremony also presents an opportunity for the legal industry to network with their peers and revel in their successes and achievements over what has been a challenging couple of years.

Commenting on its partnership with the Women in Law Awards, Leo Cussen Centre for Law executive director Shirley Southgate said: “Part of the purpose of Leo Cussen is to promote diversity in the profession, and being principal partner of the Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards contributes to pursuing this purpose.

“We believe that the profession must reflect the communities it serves, and of course this means encouraging, facilitating and advocating for women to achieve at all levels and in all facets of the profession. Women are 51 per cent of the Australian population. This should be reflected in the legal profession at every level.”

Lawyers Weekly editor Jerome Doraisamy said it is an honour and privilege for the brand to host this event.

“As Chief Justice Susan Kiefel said last weekend, much progress has been made in the push for equality in the profession, but certain hurdles remain in place. The hosting of this annual awards night - which celebrates the excellent work being undertaken by women all across the country - is one important way for us to push the case for parity in all aspects,” he said.

“We are thrilled to once again host the Women in Law Awards, and we are very excited to see all the finalists (and eventual winners) on the night.”
